Buffalo, NY – The former St. John Baptist Hospice Center, located in Buffalo’s Fruit Belt, is receiving a facelift and an uplifting transition after 5 years of vacancy.  Recovery Options’ Kirsten A Vincent Respite and Recovery Center is being renovated after discussions, education, and awareness of the need for intensive mental health crisis services within Western New York.

The residential care center will be offered to individuals in mental health crisis and in need of short-term, 24-hour peer support. The Erie County Department of Mental Health supported project includes a Short-Term Crisis Respite (Refreshing Waters), an Intensive Crisis Respite (Restful Rivers), a Renewal Center in collaboration with Western New York Independent Living (WNYIL) and a Mental Health Urgent Care, a Spectrum Health & Human Services (hours may vary).  The project has also garnered significant support from the John R. Oishei Foundation and the Patrick P. Lee Foundation.

The Respite and Recovery center is the first -of -its -kind in New York State to provide this intensive respite and a comprehensive recovery model to support crisis stabilization, decrease psychiatric hospitalizations, and continued recovery. Individuals in crisis need a place to feel safe and supported, while working on their recovery.
