Our Guiding Principles

Recovery Options Made Easy programs and services help individuals with a mental health issue or substance use disorder grow and move forward in life with person-centric and trauma-informed advocacy. The success of these programs are based on strong principles that—as peers—we’ve personally used in our own recoveries. Each service of Recovery Options has these mission-critical pillars of continual recovery woven throughout.

  • Offer services that are peer-driven, trauma-informed, and person-centric.
  • Maintain a housing-first model.
  • Treat people as individuals—NOT as their diagnoses.
  • Develop services that reflect individuality, cultural diversity, and acceptance.
  • Provide respectful treatment and promote individual choice.
  • Encourage self-responsibility and community integration in personal decision-making.
  • Improve behavioral and physical health.
  • Inform through trauma experiences.
  • Foster independence and self-sufficiency.
  • Battle stigma and discrimination through education and advocacy.

Creating Community Change Through Care

Recovery Options Made Easy, Inc., began in 1990 as Housing Options Made Easy, Inc., when a group of past and present mental health peers recognized the need to advocate for better and safer housing for individuals being discharged from the hospitals. By the time of the agency’s 10th anniversary, Recovery Options went from 30 crisis beds to 180 beds across four counties—Erie, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, and Allegany.

In celebrating our 25th anniversary, Recovery Options Made Easy expanded services into Niagara, Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, and Wyoming counties. Today, Recovery Options has over 350 scattered site apartments, while providing the following peer services.

A Support System
Driven by Participants

At Recovery Options, we believe that when individuals experiencing mental health concerns are given equal opportunity in the community, they are better poised to be successful and independent in their community. We also believe to build an effective service and support system, it must be participant-driven.

  1. The agency regularly seeks to connect with our participants to provide them a voice in their services.
  2. As a peer-run organization, the majority of our Board of Directors and staff identify as mental health peers.
  3. We believe in treating people as individuals and not diagnoses and seek to develop person-centered services that reflect that individuality.
  4. As individuals, people have different needs and make different choices. Recovery Options respects the right of individuals to make their own choices.
