Dear Western NY Artist,
Recovery Options Made Easy (ROME), a non-profit organization dedicated to helping those with mental health struggles, has embarked upon a project of curating and purchasing original art for a collection that will support our neighbors in Buffalo on their road to recovery from mental health and addiction struggles. To that end, we invite you to submit work for consideration or share this with artists who may be interested.
ROME recently opened the Kirsten Vincent Respite & Recovery Center (KVRR) in the Fruit Belt neighborhood of East Buffalo. The KVRR offers intensive short-term care that shifts the mental health care model from hospitalization to person-centric crisis stabilization and recovery.
To enrich the spirits of those that make use of the new respite and recovery center, along with their loved ones, ROME created an Art Committee that to curate and assemble a selection of original 2-dimensional art (paintings, drawings, photography, etc.) in most any medium to hang on the walls of the KVRR and be enjoyed by its guests.
The idea for the gallery within the center stemmed from a fundraiser held in honor of Jennifer Orr, a 34-year-old Buffalonian who was firmly entrenched in our arts community before taking her own life in November of 2022 after a nearly twenty-year battle with mental health and addiction issues. Jennifer’s family held a fundraiser in her honor on her birthday in April and decided to form a partnership with ROME to help her legacy live on through two of her passions: the arts and helping others, hence this new gallery.
As we seek submissions for our consideration, please know we wish to support and fairly compensate all those whose art we acquire.
Click here to submit an application along with 3-4 images of your work. Submissions will be accepted until Sunday, December 10th, 2023 at 12pm.
